Al Gatto Nero
Venice, Italy
A family-run trattoria on a canal-side terrace on the postcard-perfect town of Burano, one of islets of the Venetian Lagoon, is the stuff tourists’ dreams are made of. Add to this that at Al Gatto Nero (The Black Cat), the atmosphere is friendly and the fish fresh. The classics on the menu have been the same for half a century: tagliolini with granseola (spider crab) or spaghetti with the small clams of the area, here called Bevarasse; and, more notably, the risotto alla buranella, made with ghiozzo, a tiny fish typical of the Venetian Lagoon.
