Caffè La Crepa

Isola Dovarese, Italy

Dovarese is surrounded on three sides by the Oglio River which made this quaint little village a strategic location and explains why Giulio Cesare Gonzaga built the majestic Piazza Matteotti here in the 16th century. Fittingly, Caffè la Crepa, located in the Palazzo della Guardia, pays tribute to the long-forgotten splendor of noble cuisine with dishes such as salad of guinea fowl, cooked whole in clay and served with pine nuts, raisins and Marsala wine – a tribute to Bartolomeo Stefani, a chef at the Gonzaga court.
