Da Mimmo

When, in 1956, Demetrio “Mimmo” Amaddeo arrived from Calabria with his wife, Lina, Bergamo didn’t have a single pizzeria: Theirs was the first, and Da Mimmo e Lina – where three of the couple’s seven children still work – remains a beloved institution in the città alta. The menu is a mix of time-tested recipes from southern Italy – such as spaghetti con le sarde (with sardines, pine nuts, raisins and wild fennel) – and local dishes like casonsèi, half-moon-shaped fresh pasta served with alpine butter, sage and local bacon.
