Ganbara
San Sebastián, Spain
If you can visit only one tapas bar when you are in San Sebastian, you should head directly to this restaurant, which opened in 1984. The Otazur family sources products similar in quality to what you will find in the region's best restaurants, allowing you to order tapas-sized portions of red prawns, percebes (goose barnacles), baby eels or other seasonal delights. Other specialties include chistorra (spicy sausage) or battered prawns with mayonnaise. Their dish of mixed mushrooms, fried egg and foie gras should be in the tapas hall of fame. Friendly service and a convivial atmosphere.
