The Mayfair Chippy

The setting may be swanky (North Audley Street, no less), but the Mayfair Chippy stays mercifully free of airs and graces. Its stock in trade is traditional battered fish and chips – cod or haddock – with mushy peas, chip-shop curry sauce and wallies (large, pickled gherkins), and it even gives out free “scraps” (those yummy bits of leftover batter), just like they do up north. That said, Maldon oysters, truffle-loaded chips or lobster mac and cheese are there if you want them. Open seven days a week and as popular with locals as with tourists.
