Trattoria da Paeto

Though it is located 20 minutes from the Venetian Lagoon, Trattoria da Paeto has become a reference point for its wonderful fish and seafood (paeto means “stake” in the local dialect). Dishes change daily but often include sarde in saor (sardines fried, then added to a brine with raisins and pine nuts), spaghettoni with zotoi (a species of tiny cuttlefish) and especially cod (obviously adopted, but a crucial part of the gastronomic family for centuries): from baccalà mantecato Venetian-style (with cream) to Vicenza-style (with olive oil and milk). A gem of a place.
