Look beyond Kingsland Road, farther east to Hackney’s Mare Street, where Tre Viet sits in a smaller, quieter cluster of Vietnamese shops and restaurants. Tre Viet offers few frills beyond paper tablecloths, colorful murals and pretty pendant lights, but it’s comfortable, inexpensive and well regarded. Choose bun thit nuong (pork vermicelli noodles), braised claypot beef, crisp banh xeo pancake and summer rolls. Drink Saigon beer or sweet iced coffee.
